Ewekoro Local Government has demonstrated its commitment to environmental cleanliness and workplace hygiene by fully complying with the directive on the resuscitation of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, as workers of the council actively participated in a comprehensive cleanup of the council premises.
The exercise witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of staff, who were seen cleaning offices, council compounds and the surrounding environment in line with the state government's renewed emphasis on maintaining a healthy and conducive workplace.
Speaking shortly after the exercise, the Acting Head of Local Government Administration, Mr. Ige Samuel, commended the Head of Service for reintroducing the monthly environmental sanitation programme, describing the initiative as a timely step towards promoting a cleaner and healthier public service.
Mr. Ige noted that although Ewekoro Local Government has always attached great importance to sanitation and regular cleaning of its facilities, the formal restoration of the monthly exercise would further strengthen the culture of environmental responsibility among workers.
He applauded members of staff for their active participation during the exercise, assuring that the council would continue to accord the programme the seriousness it deserves in order to sustain a clean and pleasant working environment.
The renewed sanitation exercise follows a circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service and signed by the Permanent Secretary (Service Matters), Mr. Oladipupo F. Ogunfowora, on behalf of the Head of Service, Mr.Olanrewaju Iskeel Saka . The directive mandates all public /civil servants across the state to participate actively in the exercise under the supervision of their respective Accounting Officers and Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
According to the circular, the resuscitated monthly environmental sanitation exercise will now hold on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month as part of the government's broader strategy to institutionalise cleanliness across public offices and strengthen environmental consciousness among workers.
The initiative is also designed to complement the ongoing refurbishment and painting of offices within the State Secretariat, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, as well as other government establishments, with the ultimate objective of improving the general cleanliness and appearance of office environments throughout the state.
The circular further called for the collective commitment and cooperation of all government employees, stressing that deliberate actions such as the environmental sanitation exercise, which had been successfully practised in the past, remain essential in fostering a healthy, productive and aesthetically pleasing workplace.
With its active participation in the exercise, Ewekoro Local Government has once again reaffirmed its dedication to supporting government policies that promote environmental sustainability, public health and efficient service delivery, while setting a commendable example for other public institutions across the state.
