OGUN EXTENDS WORKERS' PALLIATIVE MEASURES, APPROVES THREE-MONTH TRANSPORT ALLOWANCE EXTENSION

In a renewed commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of its workforce, the Ogun State Government has approved the extension of the one-day-off-duty work palliative for eligible public and civil servants in the state.

The state government has also approved the continuation of the ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for an additional three months, covering the period of July to September 2026, as part of efforts to cushion the impact of rising transportation costs and support workers in the discharge of their duties.

The measures, approved by the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, are designed to motivate workers, enhance productivity and ensure that public servants remain committed to delivering quality and efficient services to the people of Ogun State.

It would be recalled that Governor Abiodun had earlier introduced the palliative initiatives from April to June 2026 following the increase in petrol pump price and its attendant effects on the cost of transportation and general living expenses. 

The extension reflects the administration’s continued sensitivity to the economic realities faced by workers.

However, the one-day-off-duty concession under the renewed arrangement will not apply to officers whose duties require constant physical presence. 

Those exempted include medical personnel, judicial service workers, teaching and non-teaching staff in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, security personnel, political office holders, accounting officers, directors, and other officers benefiting from Special Responsibility Allowances due to the critical nature of their assignments.

A circular issued by the State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Iskeel Olanrewaju Saka, mni, directed eligible workers to maximise the opportunity while ensuring that the quality of service delivery across government establishments remains uncompromised.

The Ogun State Government reiterated its commitment to prioritising workers’ welfare through people-oriented policies that promote efficiency, boost morale and reduce the economic pressure on the workforce.

The administration assured residents that while supporting its employees, it would continue to maintain a balance between workers’ welfare and the delivery of effective public services across the state.
