ABEOKUTA NORTH LG UNVEILS LANDMARK PROJECTS ACROSS COMMUNITIES , DEEPENS GRASSROOTS DEVELOPMENT

Abeokuta North Local Government has reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots development with the commissioning of a series of people-oriented projects across communities, further strengthening access to quality education, potable water, sanitation and improved local governance.

The projects were inaugurated on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, by the Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, who described the pace of development under the administration of the Executive Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon. (Dr.) Lanre Oyegbola Sodipo, as impressive and worthy of emulation.

The Commissioner, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Akinlesi, Directors of the Ministry and other senior government officials, were received at the Council Secretariat, Akomoje, by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Taiyelolu Egbeyemi, who represented the Executive Chairman. 

Also on hand to receive the delegation were members of the Executive Council, the Legislative Arm, the Acting Head of Local Government Administration, management staff and other members of staff.

Speaking during the ceremony, Hamzat recalled that he had commissioned another set of projects in the Local Government barely six months earlier, expressing delight that he was returning to inaugurate yet another round of developmental projects.

He said the achievements reflected purposeful leadership, prudent resource management and an unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of residents.

The Commissioner also commended the Executive and Legislative Arms, as well as members of staff of the Local Government, for their support, noting that the achievements were made possible by the conducive environment created by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, CON, whose government continues to prioritise grassroots development across Ogun State.

The commissioning exercise commenced with the inauguration of the newly renovated Chairman's Conference Hall and Political Functionaries' Offices at the Council Secretariat, followed by the commissioning of the upgraded Legislative Chamber.

The Commissioner later handed over the remaining commissioning exercise to the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Akinlesi, due to other official engagements.

At Holy Prophet Primary School, Adedotun, the Permanent Secretary commissioned a renovated block of six classrooms fully furnished with desks and benches. 

He praised the Local Government for providing furniture alongside the renovated classrooms, observing that many renovation projects are completed without adequate classroom furniture.

The delegation also commissioned a modern toilet facility and a solar-powered borehole at Holy Trinity Primary School, Gbagura Sabo, where teachers and pupils entertained the guests with colourful choreographic displays and presented a portrait in appreciation of the Executive Chairman's intervention.

At Olorunda, another solar-powered borehole and modern toilet facility were commissioned. 

Speaking on behalf of the traditional ruler, Oba Joshua Olusegun Enitan Ogunsola, the King's representative thanked the Local Government for the projects and appealed for additional government interventions in the community.

The commissioning train proceeded to Community Primary School, Oke-Odo, Imala, where a renovated block of three classrooms furnished with desks and benches was inaugurated.

Following the departure of the Permanent Secretary and officials of the Ministry after completing their official assignment, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Taiyelolu Egbeyemi, continued the commissioning exercise on behalf of the Executive Chairman.

At Peace Estate, he commissioned a newly installed solar-powered borehole and formally handed it over to the Community Chairman, Mr. Quaaim Lawal, who described the project as a timely intervention that would significantly improve access to clean water for residents.

The team also visited Opara, Ilupeju Community, where the Secretary to the Local Government, Engr. Mrs. Mutiat Agbaje, commissioned another solar-powered borehole.

Community leaders, including the Baale, Chief Kamarudeen Adebowale; the Community Development Association Chairman, Chief Oyekan, represented by Mr. Mukaila Yussuf; and the Area Community Development Committee Chairman, Alhaji Kola Olayiwola, commended the Executive Chairman for the intervention while appealing for the rehabilitation of roads and drainage infrastructure within the community.

The commissioning exercise continued at Abeokuta North Local Government Primary School, Housing Estate, Olomore, where the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Ajani Erubami, inaugurated a renovated block of two classrooms furnished with desks and benches. 

The Head Teacher and the Chairman of the School-Based Management Committee described the project as a major boost to teaching and learning.

The final project was commissioned at Owu Baptist Day School, Ita-Iyalode, where the Acting Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs. Ayoade Olajumoke, inaugurated another block of two renovated classrooms equipped with desks and benches.

The projects commissioned across Abeokuta North Local Government include renovated classroom blocks, upgraded legislative and administrative facilities, modern toilet facilities and solar-powered boreholes strategically distributed across several communities.

The projects underscore the commitment of the administration of Hon. (Dr.) Lanre Oyegbola Sodipo to inclusive and sustainable development, while ensuring that the dividends of democracy are felt by residents in every part of Abeokuta North Local Government.
