In a bold step towards advancing the Yewa Agenda and strengthening grassroots economic development, the Executive Chairman of Yewa South Local Government, Barrister Babatunde Ogunsola, has officially flagged off the construction of a modern two-winged lock-up shop complex at Sayedero Market, Ilaro.
The foundation-laying ceremony, held on Friday, May 1, was led by Chairman Ogunsola alongside the Vice Chairman, Hon. Sheriff Bankole, and members of the local government workforce.

The project marks a strategic intervention aimed at enhancing commercial activities and improving the trading environment within the market.
The development will consist of two wings of lock-up shops, accommodating four and six units respectively. Upon completion, the structure will replace the existing wooden stalls previously occupied by traders at the rear section of the market’s motor park, providing a safer, more organized, and modern marketplace.

Speaking at the event, Chairman Ogunsola described the project as the first in a series of economic-driven initiatives his administration plans to implement within the market. He emphasized that the transformation of Sayedero Market into a vibrant economic hub remains a top priority, with ongoing efforts to attract private sector participation.
“Ilaro holds a unique strategic position, both historically and geographically, within Ogun West Senatorial District. This presents us with a golden opportunity to make meaningful economic impact, and we are fully committed to seizing it,” he stated.

He further highlighted the market’s proximity to key infrastructure, including industrial hubs, border communities, financial institutions, security formations, and major access routes to other parts of Ogun State, noting that these advantages position the market for both state-level and international trade expansion.

Chairman Ogunsola also acknowledged the support of the Ogun State Government under the leadership of Governor Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, CON, whose financial backing has enabled the commencement of impactful projects across the local government.
While expressing appreciation for the state’s intervention, the Chairman stressed the need to be less dependent on state's financial assistance,  revealing that his administration is actively exploring alternative revenue generation strategies to sustain development initiatives.

“This project is only the beginning. We are committed to delivering more impactful projects that will bring the vision of the Yewa Agenda closer to reality,” he affirmed.
The Sayedero Market development adds to the growing list of infrastructural and economic projects undertaken by the Ogunsola-led administration, reinforcing its commitment to grassroots development and regional economic transformation.
