ODEDA LG RAISES SECURITY ALERT OVER PLOT TO ABDUCT SCHOOL CHILDREN, BORDER COMMUNITY RESIDENTS

The Odeda Local Government has raised serious concern over credible intelligence reports indicating planned kidnapping attacks targeting school children and residents of vulnerable border communities within the council area, urging heightened vigilance and swift information sharing among residents.

At an emergency security stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Local Government, stakeholders unanimously resolved to intensify community surveillance and strengthen collaboration with security agencies to forestall any criminal activity capable of threatening public peace and safety.

According to the press statement released through the office of the Executive Chairman, the  meeting brought together top security operatives and critical stakeholders, including representatives of the Amotekun Corps, So-Safe Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), vigilante groups, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and other relevant partners.

Speaking during the meeting, the Executive Chairman of Odeda Local Government, Hon.Waliat Folasade Adeyemo, Ph.D., stressed that security remains a collective responsibility that requires active participation from all members of the public.

She noted that timely, accurate, and actionable information from residents remains one of the strongest weapons against criminality, particularly in preventing kidnapping and other security breaches before they occur.

The Chairman therefore appealed to residents not to conceal any useful information that could assist security agencies in identifying, tracking, and neutralizing criminal elements. 

She specifically directed school proprietors, principals, head teachers, parents, guardians, and community leaders to remain vigilant and immediately report strange faces, suspicious movements, or unusual activities around schools and residential areas.

Security agencies present at the meeting assured residents of intensified surveillance operations, increased patrols, and improved intelligence gathering across identified flashpoints and vulnerable communities within the Local Government Area.

While calling on residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and security conscious, Odeda Local Government reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to working closely with all security agencies and community stakeholders to sustain peace, protect lives and property, and guarantee a safe environment for all residents.
