..... Says Super Eagles have done us proud, urges Nigerians to channel their energy to improve the nation's economy.
The Executive Chairman of Ewekoro Local Government, Hon. Adesina Sikiru Adisa has praised the Super Eagles for their outstanding performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, after they clinched the coveted bronze medal in a thrilling penalty shootout victory over the Pharaohs of Egypt .
The match, which went into extra time after a tense goalless draw, saw the Super Eagles dig deep, displaying remarkable resilience and grit.
In a nerve-wracking penalty shootout, the Nigerian side triumphed, securing the ninth bronze medal in the country's AFCON history.
In a statement issued by the Council's Director of Information, Mr. Sakiru Olopade, stated that Hon. Adesina Sikiru lauded the team’s collective effort, commending the skill, hard work, and determination displayed by every player on the field.
He particularly highlighted the leadership of Skipper Wilfred Ndidi, whose calm and composed presence in midfield kept the team balanced throughout the match.
The Chairman also singled out key performances from attacking duo of Akor Adams and Paul Onachu whose creativity and clinical finishing kept Egypt on the back foot, while Alex Iwobi pace and Ademola Lookman’s flair provided added danger in the final third.
On the defensive side, Calvin Bassey and Semi Ajayi stood resolute, thwarting Egypt’s attacking threats with remarkable toughness and discipline.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali’s agility and reflexes were pivotal, particularly in the penalty shootout, where he made critical saves to secure the victory for the team.
"These players have done us proud," Hon. Adesina said. “They showed what it means to be a Super Eagle—resilient, determined, and hungry for victory. Their efforts have made every Nigerian proud."
He further emphasized that the team’s performance should serve as a lesson in tenacity and teamwork. "At a time when our nation faces several challenges, the spirit of the Super Eagles reminds us that through unity, resilience, and hard work, we can overcome any obstacle."
Hon. Adesina Sikiru also called on Nigerians to rally behind the country, stressing that the collective will and commitment shown by the Super Eagles should be mirrored in all spheres of national life.
"Let us channel this energy to work towards improving our economy and strengthening the fabric of our nation."
The Local Government boss concluded by urging all Nigerians to honor the Super Eagles’ achievement and continue to support them in future competitions, as they continue to raise the flag of Nigeria high on the continental stage.
