The Ogun State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) brought the 2025 Local Government Service Week to a grand and memorable close with a colourful Awards and Gala Night held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the DLK Event Centre, Abiola Way, Abeokuta. The ceremony, rich in glamour and cultural vibrancy, was dedicated to celebrating excellence, honouring outstanding dedication, and inspiring a more efficient and motivated workforce within the State’s Local Government Service.
In his welcome remarks, the Chairman of the Planning Committee , and Full-time Commissioner 11 , Otunba Koye Martins Ijaduoye, praised the initiative, noting that recognizing and rewarding excellence remain a strong driver of productivity and morale among staff.
In her opening address, the Chairman of the Commission, Ms. Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo, expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for his unwavering support, visionary leadership, and commitment to grassroots development.
" I sincerely thank His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for his steadfast belief in the potential of the Local Government Service. The Commission has aligned it's operations with the administration's " Building Our Future " agenda by embracing innovation, reforming Our systems and sustaining culture of excellence for which Ogun State is renowned" , She stated.
Ms. Onabanjo highlighted major milestones recorded by the Commission under her leadership, including the successful completion of the 2023 and 2024 promotion exercises for senior and junior staff, conversion of eligible officers, confirmation of 2023 appointees, and a comprehensive working tour of the twenty Local Governments for on-the-spot assessments, all geared toward strengthening institutional capacity.
She also appreciated past and present Deputy Governors, lawmakers, industry leaders, and development partners for their support. She described the Awards and Gala Night as a celebration of collective achievements and an affirmation of the Service’s renewed commitment to innovation, professionalism, and effective service delivery at the grassroots.
Delivering his goodwill message, His Royal Majesty, Oba Hezekiah Rasidi Tayo, the Eselu of Okeselu, Sagamu Local Government, and a retired Permanent Secretary, commended the visionary leadership of the Commission and likened Ms. Onabanjo’s steady reforms to the developmental legacy of his late father, former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Bisi Onabanjo.
Other goodwill messages were delivered by Hon. (Mrs.) Lateefat Bolanle Ajayi, Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly; Hon. Sesan Abolaji Fagbayi, Commissioner for Tourism; and Elder Olorunmbe Aregbesola, Chairman of the Association of Retired Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGAs). They all applauded the Commission for repositioning the Local Government Service through merit-based recognition and strategic reforms.
The Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Engr. Olanike Ogunbona, FNSE, congratulated all awardees and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to sustaining a culture of acknowledgment and reward for excellence, which she described as critical to workforce motivation and institutional growth.
The highpoint of the Gala Night was the presentation of awards to exceptional officers and departments. Alhaji Ayinla Sulaimon Olalekan, HOLGA, Ijebu-Ode Local Government, emerged Best Administrator of the Year 2025, while Mrs. Kikelomo Munirat Ajayi, HOLGA, Abeokuta North Local Government, and Mr. Odusoga Monsuru, HOLGA, Ogun Waterside Local Government, were named first and second runners-up respectively. Best Revenue Drive of the Year – Alhaja Toriola Monsurat
Best Internal Auditor – Alhaja Zainab Faleye
Outstanding Human Resources Officer of the Year – Mr. Popoola Olanrewaju Lukman
Best Grassroots Mobilizer of the Year – Mr. Ilori Matteu Akande
Best Environmental Officer of the Year – Comrade Bankole Titilayo Janet
Image Maker of the Year – Miss Fadipe Olajumoke Basirat
Best Local Government 2025 – Ewekoro Local Government
The glamorous evening drew dignitaries and stakeholders from across Ogun State, including Full-Time Commissioners, Directors, Chairman and members of boards and parastatals , ALGON was led by the State Chairman, Hon. Waliat Folasade Adeyemo,(PhD), Body of Retired Permanent Secretaries and Body of serving Permanent Secretaries, Body of Retired and Serving HOLGAs, representatives of the NLC and NULGE, pensioners, departmental heads, staff from the twenty Local Governments, as well as top government functionaries and senior state officials who graced the ceremony in solidarity with the Commission’s transformational agenda.
