......Hon. Adesina Sikiru Adisa Salutes Democracy Heroes, Extols MKO Abiola's Sacrifice, Commends Tinubu and Abiodun's Leadership
The Executive Chairman of Ewekoro Local Government, Hon. Adesina Sikiru Adisa, has paid glowing tribute to Nigeria's founding fathers, nationalists, pro-democracy activists, and political leaders whose unwavering sacrifices laid the foundation for the democratic system the nation enjoys today.
In a press release issued and signed by the Council Director Of Information Mr. Olopade Sakiru , the Chairman described June 12 as a historic milestone that symbolizes the triumph of the people's will over dictatorship and the resilience of Nigerians in the pursuit of justice, freedom, and accountable governance.
According to him, the struggle against military rule and the sustained agitation by courageous patriots eventually culminated in the restoration of democratic governance in 1999, a democratic journey that has endured uninterrupted to this day.
He noted that the annual observance of June 12 serves not only as a celebration of that victory but also as a solemn reminder of the responsibility placed on every Nigerian to preserve and strengthen the nation's democracy.
Hon. Adesina particularly extolled the virtues of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, describing him as the symbol of Nigeria's democratic struggle whose ultimate sacrifice remains one of the greatest acts of patriotism in the country's history.
"Chief MKO Abiola paid the supreme price in defence of the people's mandate. His courage, conviction, and unwavering commitment to democratic ideals continue to inspire generations of Nigerians and stand as a testament to the enduring power of sacrifice in nation-building," he stated.
The Chairman also acknowledged the efforts of the present administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and implementing policies aimed at national renewal reflects the continuous evolution of Nigeria's democratic project.
He equally commended the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for his people-oriented leadership and developmental initiatives that have continued to consolidate democratic dividends across the state.
At the local level, Hon. Adesina reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to transparent governance, grassroots development, inclusive leadership, and policies that directly impact the lives of the people of Ewekoro Local Government. He stressed that democracy finds its true meaning only when governance translates into improved welfare, infrastructure, economic opportunities, and public trust.
While celebrating the nation's democratic achievements, the Chairman urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in defending democratic values by promoting peace, unity, tolerance, and active participation in the electoral and governance processes.
"As we commemorate June 12, let us honour the sacrifices of our heroes by building a nation anchored on justice, accountability, and the rule of law. The responsibility of sustaining democracy does not rest on government alone but on every patriotic citizen who believes in the future of Nigeria. Together, we must ensure that the gains secured through years of struggle are preserved for generations yet unborn," he said.
Hon. Adesina further expressed optimism that through collective resolve, responsible leadership, and active citizen engagement, Nigeria's democracy would continue to grow stronger, delivering greater prosperity and hope to all.
